Another sad tally of First World War casualties, this book was compiled and published by The Burnley Express 'to the memory of the fallen heroes of Greater Burnley' in Lancashire. The Hall family of Padiham lost four sons, whilst the Bolton family of Newchurch had two officer sons killed at Gallipoli, with a third officer son dying of wounds as a PoW in a German hospital in 1918. At least fiteen other Burnley families lost three sons including the Nutter family of Briercliffe who had two sons killed by the same shell on the 6th February 1917, with the third son dying in May 1918.
Information found in this collection which will not be found elsewhere is the street where the man lived and, in some cases, the cause of death such as, "died of pneumonia whilst a prisoner in Germany".
